TAZIO!

The inspiration

When watching old motor racing movies, you can't help but be filled with admiration for the bravery and skill displayed those drivers of a bygone era.

With powerful cars riding on hard skinny tyres and their pilots protected with little more than cotton overalls and a leather cap. Grand Prix racing during the 1930s was truly the sport of heroes.

Famous for his battles against the odds, one driver from this time has come to be regarded by many as the greatest of them all, Tazio Nuvolari.

In 1937 after leaving Ferrari, Nuvolari signed up to drive the last in the line of one the most innovative racing cars of its time, the legendary Auto Union…

The sculpture

Nuvolari wrestles the Auto Union D type to victory at Donnington during 1938.

With his sculpture, Artist Mark Ricketts has sought to capture the essence of the moment as Nuvolari balances the tremendous power of the Auto Union with the limited grip of the tyres.

Crafted in meticulous detail, ‘Tazio!' fuses a love of the engineering with a passion for the human story that is motor racing.

You really need to have Tazio! in your hands to be able to fully appreciate the presence this exquisite miniature has, but clicking on the photos will give you a fine idea of the quality.

At 160mm in length your sculpture will be hand made from cold cast bronze and weigh in at over half a kilo.

The detail and drama of the piece is enhanced by subtle highlighting of the traditional ‘penny bronze' colour, reflecting the golden era of motor racing that bore witness to the drama of Nuvolari's titanic drives to victory.

Limited edition

Only 200 of these beautiful bronze sculptures will be released.

Priced at £65 each, you will also receive a certificate of authenticity signed and numbered by the artist when you buy Tazio!
